The wildcards in your regular expressions are expanded by the shell. Ls wil run (as ls -1) and pipe it’s output to grep. After this expansion the line will be ls | grep Desktop Documents Downloads

This results in D* being replaced by the file names in the working directory that start with a D. The shell wil first do a lot of things to it like word splitting and many expansions. Solution please! I use these spreadsheets practically every day and as long as i can't use it in OO I'm forced to run Windows at least once a day. I've replaced with other text that i know is present and that works just fine. There's nothing wrong with the formula as such. I've tried with several other characters, than, as a wild card but nothing works. In MS Office it works splendidly and as far as i can understand it ought to work in OO too but it doesn't. I don't know the name of the formula in English but i think that you know what formula it is due to my description. In some of my spreadsheets i use the formula to pick the number of cells where the is present. I've just done my final step in converting from being a windows user to running Ubuntu Linux on a regular basis and this is where my problem appears. I have a problem with the use of wild cards in some spreadsheets i regularly use. This is my premier visit to this, hopefully useful, forum, so hi!
